Description

My most recent design is a Paper Steering Car. This is assembled in 13 parts (9 3D printed, 1 paper clip and 1 slip of sturdy paper). I wanted to create a very small yet agile car. Small joints are difficult to 3D print, so in my design I decided to use sturdy paper instead. After a couple of days it is holding up very well! In addition, to make the car steer well, I incorporated Ackermann steering (look it up it's very useful). The car is only 4cm by 4cm and a super quick print! Check out my website, https://www.mattiatbutera.com for a more in-depth explanation or my Instagram https://www.instagram.com/mtb_3d/ for more projects!

Recommendations:

  • Print support for part 5
  • Make sure to print 2 right wheels and 2 left wheels
  • Use a larger sized paperclip and divide it into 2, 17mm segments for the front axles and 1, 52mm segment for the rear axle
  • Use strong glue to attach the front axles and paper
  • Using pliers can help bend the paper clip
  • Cut sturdy paper to the following dimensions: 10mm by 53mm
  • Make sure to cut notches for the steering assembly
  • The wheels work best on rubbery surfaces or carpets (slipping on small rubber bands can help supply grip on slick surfaces)
