Description

The files are not modeled to be sharp. I sanded the prints down to have the blade feel to them and then painted. It worked better for me having thick layers so there was a decent amount of material to smooth out before it reaches the next layer. I found that .3 mm worked good for the layers. Also I set my printer so the top and bottom solid layers are more or equal to the total layer count so there is not infill grid printed. It needs to be 100% solid to sand properly.

These Wolverine claws look pretty cool! Gotta try printing these out and sanding them down. Hope it turns out as good as the designer's! crazy cattle 3d

This is a cool project! The author's tips on Crazy Cattle 3D layer height and infill are helpful for achieving a smooth, blade-like finish. I'm curious to see some printed examples.

This design is so great and suitable for slope game. Where can I buy it?

What kind of paint did you use for the finish? I have tried spray paint before and it only ends up super sticky and not the greatest texture.

I used Krylon premium original chrome spray paint for the print shown. You can find it at most art, craft stores, and here.

As for the texture issue I completely understand your pain. The chrome is never really chrome, what can I say its just spray paint. I would sand, sand, and sand some more. If you choose to use any kind of power sander, don't go to fast the material will come off in messy melted clumps. I tried to use less paint so i didn’t loose details I made from sanding. An acetone finish would definitely smooth out everything even what didn't to smooth. I didn’t get to put a good clear coat over it, that could also help you out a bit with the texture.
