TwistLamp0 is larger than most of my other LED lamps; it took 26.5 hours to print with a layer height of 0.200 mm and a print speed of 100 mm/sec. This is my first lamp design that does not come to a point at the top. Instead I used a hemisphere to close off the top of a basic cylindrical shape to which I added some twisted extrusions made with oval cross sections.

Actually the extrusions are double-twisted. I started with a single, vertical extrusion of an oval shape. Then I twisted it 180 degrees, made a circular array of 9 of these, and then twisted the whole array about 160 degrees. Finally I flipped/mirrored this whole thing 180 degrees to get the opposite twist. I thought it would be interesting to semi-submerge the top hemisphere, so that's what I did for this design.

After this design was finished I tried making some alterations which are easy to do because I use parametric design software (http://birkbinnard.com/blog/parametric-modeling/) to make all my designs. It didn't take me long to realize I had made some basic design errors that, even though I was able to do this part, modifications just weren't working out. So I started over and now have a new, more flexible design that should yield better results.

This light is designed to hold a standard LED puck light; search for "LED puck" and you will find several options. The light has a space for accommodating the cord for a wall-powered LED.
