The Blade of Woe first appeared as a unique Ebony Dagger during the events that unfold in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. According to Lucien Lachance the dagger was never used before. Lucien gave it the Hero of Kvatch as a gift from the Dark Brotherhood. Later, the Night Mother placed an enchantment on it.
