Description

Einstein Bust

Here's a very nice model of Einstein based on the mesh from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:966908 I just made it easier to 3d print by fixing a few issues, decimating, reorienting and flattening the base.

It prints in about 6.5 hours with support. I used 0.2mm layer with 3 perimeters and 20% infill. For support, use 10% infill at 4mm and 54 degrees automatic. Make sure the mustache is supported. Add a few manual supports if necessary.

You can buy this already printed here.

The young artist’s hands are extremely little, yet he is also extremely flexible. Hello, nice model. If you don't mind I have placed your model here - https://artisgl.com/einstein-bust mentioning you as an author.
If you like you can download a free 3D publishing application from Windows 10 Store, publish and promote your models yourself.
Good luck.

Thanks for the feature, even with that glitch at the top of his head in the photos . That was from printing on a very cheap i3, NOT from removing his brain. I finally updated the pictures with a better print done in ABS on a better printer. The model shown outdoor was printed at 0.2 mm in gold Hatchbox ABS. I went out in the sun to get the metal flake in the gold. It doesn't really come though in the pictures, but it glitters in real life. It won't pass for real gold, but does look sweet.

By using 54 degrees you get more support around the chin (0 degrees is horizontal and 90 is vertical). I always check the tool path in preview before printing and noticed there were still some unsupported regions being traced "in thin air" so to speak. To make sure these got supported, I could have used manual support mode, but took the easy route tweaked the Maximum Overhang Angle until I was satisfied with the amount of support. I use simplify 3D as my slicer.

Why 54 degrees?

My printer has a slight glitch near the top of his head, as you can see in the photos, making it look like someone might have tried to steal his brain. That small gap is not in the model itself. I glad it still came out so well after such a long print.
