Summary I noticed most of the air was being pushed back instead of around the stepper motor with u/chrismagno's design, so I made the fan offset at a greater distance from the stepper with a directional duct to move more air around the motor. It seems to work more efficiently now because I cannot feel air flowing backwards as it did before.
